ITAMMA Unites Academia, Industry, And Innovators At Multi-Event Platform In Coimbatore

The Indian Textile Accessories & Machinery Manufacturers’ Association (ITAMMA) successfully hosted a series of events on 27th and 28th June 2025 in Coimbatore, bringing together experts, academicians, students, and industry leaders to discuss emerging trends and collaborative opportunities in textile machinery, man-made fibres, automation, and innovation.

On 27th June, ITAMMA’s Board Meeting featured Dr. B. Vinod, Head of Robotics and Automation Engineering at PSG College of Technology, as Special Invitee. Recognized for his pioneering work in robotics, including humanoid and underwater robots. Dr. Vinod emphasized industry-academic partnerships and highlighted collaborations with global firms such as Heidenhain, Fanuc, and Siemens.

A seminar on “Trends in Man-Made Textiles” highlighted the growing global dominance of MMF textiles, now comprising 72% of global fibre consumption. N.D. Mhatre, Director General (Tech), ITAMMA, stressed the need for machine manufacturers to align their technology with MMF processing requirements. ITAMMA President, Omprakash Mantry reaffirmed ITAMMA’s commitment through its Technology Cell to equip members with the latest MMF knowledge.

The Chief Guest, Dr. S.K. Sundararaman, Chairman of SIMA and ITTA, advocated for policy support to ensure indigenous MMF is available at competitive prices. He highlighted the role of MMF in both fashion and functional textiles.

Guest Speaker Suryadeb Mukherjee from Gherzi Consulting outlined global MMF trends, urging R&D, eco-practices, and skill-building within the textile engineering ecosystem.

The day concluded with the launch of ITAMMA VOICE Issue No. 16 and a vote of thanks by Sundar Raj, ITAMMA MC Member.

On 28th June, ITAMMA, in association with the BK Mehta Endowment Fund, conducted the fourth edition of the “B.K. Mehta Technology Networking Mission-2030” at Hotel Gokulam Park. The event started with a documentary on the legacy of B.K. Mehta, followed by insights from key leaders including Omprakash Mantry, Dr. P. Alli Rani (SVPITSM), and Dr. Prakash Vasudevan (SITRA), who called for greater industry-academia R&D collaboration and indigenous alternatives to imported machinery.

A highlight of the session was the student innovation showcase, where teams from institutions like SVPITSM, PSG Tech, Kumaraguru College, RNGPIT, and DKTE presented innovative projects in agro-textiles, acoustic packaging, AI-assisted learning, and sustainable hygiene solutions.

An MoU was signed between SVPITSM and ITAMMA to explore joint projects in technical textiles, and students were felicitated with certificates and tokens of appreciation. Vishal Masand, Hon. Treasurer, ITAMMA, delivered the vote of thanks.

The event concluded with a delegation visit to the Lakshmi Machine Works (LMW) Textile Machine Tool Division, where members were given a comprehensive tour of LMW’s advanced manufacturing infrastructure.

Omprakash Mantry, leading the delegation, emphasized the importance of such visits in fostering knowledge exchange and strengthening India’s textile machinery ecosystem.
