Textiles Committee Organizes Jute Mark India Awareness Workshop in Mumbai

Textiles Committee, under the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, organized an Awareness Workshop under the Jute Mark India (JMI) Scheme on March 10, 2025, at Hotel Radisson Blu, Mumbai. The workshop aimed to create awareness and provide insights into the JMI Scheme.
The event was convened by Kartikay Dhanda, Secretary, Textiles Committee, and Dr. K.S. Muralidhara, Joint Director and Program Head. Hon’ble Minister of Textiles, Government of Maharashtra, Sanjay Waman Sawakare, attended as the Chief Guest and emphasized improving jute product quality, promoting R&D, supporting self-sustainability, and encouraging “Made in India” products.

Launched on July 9, 2022, the Jute Mark India Scheme promotes and recognizes jute products in domestic and international markets. The Jute Mark logo with a traceable QR code helps registered artisans and manufacturers access market linkages.
Since its launch, 26 manufacturers have registered under the scheme. Debjani Banerjee, Director of Srishti Lifestyle, was the first to register and was awarded a certificate and JMI labels for this achievement.

The workshop provided detailed insights to artisans, Self-Help Groups (SHGs), jute product manufacturers, and other stakeholders, aiming to strengthen jute’s market recognition as a sustainable fibre. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. K.S. Muralidhara.
