Weave The Future 4.0 To Spotlight Circular Fashion And Textile Waste Solutions

With India generating 70.73 lakh tonnes of textile waste annually, the Ministry of Textiles is set to host Weave The Future 4.0 – Upcycling Edition from July 12–17, 2026, at Dilli Haat, New Delhi, to promote circular fashion, sustainable consumption and innovative textile waste solutions.
Organised by the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handlooms), Ministry of Textiles, the national platform will bring together over 100 brands, artisans, recyclers, thrift collectives, designers and innovators working in upcycling, recycling, repair, repurposing and circular design.
Speaking about the initiative, Arti Kanwar, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Textiles, said India must leverage its rich textile heritage while developing practical and scalable solutions to address the growing challenge of textile waste. She noted that the ‘What Is It Made Of?’ competition aims to identify innovative ideas from young designers, engineers, researchers and entrepreneurs that have the potential for real-world implementation.
Dr M. Beena, Development Commissioner (Handlooms), said the initiative draws inspiration from India’s long-standing tradition of extending the life of textiles and encourages a new generation of innovators to build sustainable solutions rooted in this knowledge.
A key highlight of the event is the ‘Re-stitch India’ campaign, which invites individuals, students, artisans, institutions and communities to create 1 metre × 1 metre panels using discarded garments, fabric scraps and reclaimed textiles. Contributions received by July 7 will become part of a large collaborative installation to be showcased during the event.
The event will also host the ‘What Is It Made Of?’ innovation challenge, open to participants aged 16–45 years, inviting scalable solutions across five categories—Upcycling, Recycling, Regenerative Design, System Design, and Supply Chain Innovation. Selected entries will receive recognition, exhibition opportunities, prizes and implementation support.
Through these initiatives, Weave The Future 4.0 aims to foster greater awareness of circular fashion while encouraging innovation, repair, material recovery and responsible consumption across India’s textile ecosystem.
